Writing Marathon!

It's time, ladies....

Starting Monday, August 3, keep track of that word count!  Write as much as you can, because it's a race to the end of the week.  Email me your total for the week on Friday, August 7, any time before Midnight PST.

Quantity not quality.  Honor system.

Best of all, the winner gets a prize!  A signed Advance Review Copy of Jami Alden's sizzling hot September release, Unleashed.

This weekend, I'll post a blank version of the Excel word count spreadsheet I use for you to download.  Because Monday morning, it's GO TIME!!!  (And thank you, Sarah, for the fabulous idea!)

looks like it's on you, girls! I leave on the fifth for 20 days of complete insanity. Will most likely leave the laptop at home due to weight:aggro. I'll hit it up next time around!

WHAT?! Sigh...talk about bad timing, Pam! Where're you going? Oh but you can do a haaaalf weeeeek....

I'm doing the grand tour of the east coast. Step-son's wedding in Maine. Then four days in boston (old friend's husband is a prof @ Harvard and I've gained access to the Widner Library which - omg - I'm so excited I can't even stand it!!!) One night in Mystic, then it's off to Block Island for the annual Johnson-sister week. Then Mom's in New Canaan and then home. whew. Think I can squeeze in Foxwoods??? :-) I have much to do before now and crack o' dawn wednesday. Found out today that my beloved (leased) horse Cisco has been sold, and I'm heartbroken, but would like to get a ride in every day between tomorrow and tuesday. Missoula-->pedicure, pack, etc...

writing? book?? what book?

Hey, I am ready and excited. I am sad to that Pam is not participating, but understand. I hope alot of people do this, because it only seems like a few write in here. (Pam, Lizzie, and I are taking over the place it looks like!) LOL! Good luck to everyone!!

~Sarah~

Wow, have a great trip, Pam! Sarah, even if it's just you and me, anything to light a fire under me this week. =) We're off for a week in Hawaii next Saturday (woohoo! woohoo! first real family vacation in AGES), and I need to bulk up my word count before I go!

Here it is!! Click here to download my word count spreadsheet! :)

I don't mind a fire under my chair either. Nothing like a friendly little competition! Sounds like a great vacation. We had a blast. Was a successful trip.

~Sarah~

Alright...looks like it's you and me, Sarah. I'm off to a late start this morning, but just had a big plate of pasta that I'm hoping will be counteracted by the coffee I just made. Off to the Aberdeen docks. =) Good luck today!

I saw on your other posting that your count for the day is 621. Ohhhh no no no, Sarah. The day is not over yet! X:) I insist you snag another 30 minutes and another 100 words at least. (Are you gonna hate me at the end of this week?!)

LOL, I will not hate you and I see what you are saying. I won't post until I have completely finished writing for the day. Though that Was Monday's word count and all I was able to do. BUT, today is a new day and I will kick your butt!!! LOL!

~Sarah~

I got 1284 under my belt yesterday, and girl, you are SO not kicking my butt today!! Hey, did you get the word count spreadsheet to work? I can always try emailing it to you...

damn. I'm still trying to re-work the stupid de Kooning scene. lol.

Sarah? you're going to let her bully you like this? Good thing I'm not participating. I'd be a puddle on the floor, crouched and sobbing over a piece of chocolate cake.

That's me...a big ole bully! (Not!) Sadly, it is I who is today's puddle on the floor. I'm having to do some rewriting, so word count is a mere 288 so far. :|

I was a puddle last night. I'm not kidding you - 4 re-writes of the house-tour scene. Stomping, slamming doors, having a good ol' tantrum because I was on information overload, wrote myself into a corner and couldn't figure out how to get out. But I guess this is what guys named Pete are for. He talked me down off the ledge, made me coffee, and then dissected the issues, one by one. Gave myself a gold star for going back for another try, and ended up with a piece that I'm happy with. Pete got something else.
*cough*

Well, looks like today belongs to me! My word count is 1455! SLAM! Nothing but net!

Nope, nobody is bullying me around, but then again, I might need it here!

You go Pam, I am very proud of you for finishing it out and I am glad Pete was reward for hard effort!! LOL!!!

As for the word count, it wouldn't let me. I guess when we got the computer, we didn't register for Microsoft Works., so I cant download it. It keeps asking me for product code and to register. So if it is ok, I will just post it this way unless having you email it to me will work. That would be great!

Pam, you have a safe trip tomorrow!!! HUGS!!!

~Sarah~

oh veronica - you're not gonna fall for THAT are you? "I'll just post it here....ohhhh gee...lookit that..3427 words today....hum-dee-dum" I don't know if you've ever actually SPOKEN to Sarah, but she's got this sweet voice with a little accent...could talk the birdies down from the trees....

Pam, fueling the competition.

PS: thanks Sa...I'll call you at some point this week...{{{hugs}}}

FISRT- Thanks for the compliment.
SECOND- I would pay to see her write 3427 words!!!!
THIRD- You are goood!!!

~Sarah~

Oh, one more thing, I think this is funner then the acutal writing!!!

~Sarah~

I imagine Pam is on a plane right about now, but still, if you're out there, glad you enjoyed *cough* your gold star! X:)

Nothing but net?! TOO FUNNY! Well, you go girl! Looks like you've got yesterday and today. Sigh. Doctor's appt. this morning, then lunch, and somehow all of a sudden it's the end of the afternoon. :-/ How does that happen?!

As for spreadsheet, yeah, I think you probably need to have registered the product to use it. Bummer! Well, posting it here definitely works. Hope today was a good one for you!

Sadly, no. I only got 411 words. I started writing this morning but it was a fix on my sex scene, which actually yook my total word count down some. I hate that. But the end grows closer! Sorry you weren't able to do anything. I'm sure I better whatch my word count for tomorrow.

~Sarah~

wahhh! Just had to delete 842 words. :( Switching hero's POV to heroine's instead....ohhh the pain!

YUK, that does sound horrible. I have written a little this morning, but I am getting ready for a garage sale, so I am going to finish tonight. Will post then. (842, unbelievable.) I'm thinking of ya! Hope it works out for you!

~Sarah~

V, I think the 842 still count for the day...I mean you WROTE them. the marathon rules disn't state anything about deletions. Plus, delete??? ACK!! NO. You RECYCLE. put them in a folder for a later book. GAWD. don't you know ANYTHING bout writing a book??? sheesh. *smirk*

Pam, checking in from Bath, ME, and about to meet the evil ex-wife and does anyone have any valium??

Word Count for THursday- 769.
Pam- deletion means no words. Though I agree, I hope you saved them Veronica.
Pam- Whose side are you on anyway? ;)
I hope tonight went well! I'm thinking of you!
Veronica- how goes you?I wrote the cutes line today!

~Sarah~

LOL...love it, Pam! (Though eeesh on the whole ex thing. Hope that went okay for you.) Anyway, I actually managed to salvage a lot of my deleted stuff, repurposing it elsewhere, so my final count wasn't so very ghastly at all: 1066. Last day tomorrow, Sarah. We need to jam!!!

Jam I shall! I will follow your lead! (though actually I'm in the lead, I hope!)

~Sarah~

S - I'm on the side of the devils advocate. :-)

Last night went well, everyone had their game face. we didn't actually meet, since we kept to one side of the prty and she on the other. It was terribly awkward and Pete was a bit of a wreck, but all went smoothly. Today, wedding...and then we're done!

MY GOD!! LMAO!! I am just cracking up and lauging at what you guys are writing here! (Pam I loved your description of Sarah) LOL!! It's the WMF SMACKDOWN!!!

In this Corner: Sarah the Sweet Saucy Mama weighing in at a word count of 769 (as of yesterday)

In this Corner: Veronic the Victorious weighing in at a word count of 1066 (as of yesterday).

LADIESSSS LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!!!

I could participate but since I work in a 4' by 4' cube all day (not really that small) that is not going to happen. LOL

I did hand count my writing as of Tuesday.I have missed two nights by working late at the office. So my Paltry flow of writing comes to a mere 309 words.

sniff, sniff no signed copies of ANYTHING for me. :-(

~Lizzie

you know V that word count of 1066 suspiciously sounds like a date????? Hmmm perhaps that was not a word count but a reading of the battle of 1066. LOL!! I didn't know you cared about the battle of Hastings so much!

~Lizzie

Your day will come, Lizzie! I know it! And I TOTALLY thought that about 1066 being a date...lol. Well, here's another date, ladies. 1818! Shazam!

OK, You win for today. I can not compete with 1818 in one day. My total for today was 1134. So what are or totals all together? With Veronica having 1818, I am sure she won! I had a great time!
LIZZIE- I love your whole wrestling take to the situation, too cute! I love how Pam described me also, you always ownder what you might sound like on the phone!
PAM- Glad things are going well! I hope you continue to have a great time!
VERONICA- be safe and have fun! Tihnk of us while you are there in the spa! Watch the storms.

~Sarah~

Sarah, you totally win for attitude, baby! Jami's already signed her ARC just for you. :) I'll pop it in the mail when I get back from vacation. Nice work this week--we've got to do it again!! It was so fun having a little camaraderie. Next time, I'll try to rope in some of my author friends too!

Thank you very much! I have had a ball doing this and I agree, the coamaradarie was fab!!!!
That would be great if you could get your friends to join. I think they would have fun! Then we would also have Pam and Lizzie!

~Sarah~

CONGRATS SARAH!!! LOL!! YEAH!! That can do attitude peps me up. Hee-hee you guys kept me thoroughly entertained. We will definitely have to have a re-match. All four of us duking it out. Just think, it's the readers that will benefit!

~Lizzie

1818!! OMG Wow...speechless. I think I pegged your name right V. Veronica the Victorious LOL

~Lizzie

LOL, it was alot of fun Lizzie. I can't wait to do it again and get more people involved.

~Sarah~

Oh definitely, we need to up the ante too. Something like you lose points if a certain amount is not written in a day and extra prizes if you go over your amount for the day.

~Lizzie

LOL< there you go!

~Sarah~

Yeah! I like that idea, Lizzie!

All this from the person who does not type her work on a computer. LOL I guess writing on paper does fuel the imagination.

~Lizzie

And those were your suggestions, don't forget, when the time comes for the marathon and you have writers cramp!!!!

~Sarah~

Damn! I knew I should have kept my mouth shut! LOL!!! My hand aches already. So a fictional name for my fictional castle came to me as I was emailing a co-worker at work. It was a TA-DAH Moment for me. LOL. I am so happy.

I still have not written the battle scene...grrrr...grumble...

~Lizzie

I will be coming up on mine soon!

~Sarah~

oooh I love those ta-dahh moments! :)

Veronica, I recieved Jamie Alden's book today! I can't wait to read it! I want to say here to her that I appreciate her signing the book and I will try and find a web site for her and say it there to.
And for you Veronica......It is on!!!! The next marathon is mine! LMAO!
Thank you again for giving this to me and for hosting the marathon.

~Sarah~

I either need a "ta-daa" moment or a kick in the ass. I can't decide which.

Can I volunteer for the "kick in the ass" postition? I'll do it for free even! ;)

~Sarah~

I need a ta-daa with jazz hands.

Sarah, so glad you got the book! It's gotten great reviews--I hope you enjoy it! :)

I'm sure I will!

~Sarah~
