Veronica's Official Wordcount Spreadsheet

Courtesy of my nice husband.  :)

This is what I use to track my daily progress, and to see how many words I need to write per day in order to meet my deadline.  Click here to download it--you'll need Excel installed on your computer.  Best thing to do is select "save to computer."  I "save as" a new spreadsheet for each project.

Each day, you'll need to enter today's date in Column A, Today's Date in Column D, and words written in Column E.

Please note: Column F has a little bug whereby the word "#VALUE!" always appears--disregard this.

Don't hesitate to post questions!!  Happy writing!

OK, I will have to have my husband check it out. I couldn't get it to load, but then again, I am computer dumb! My word count for today is 621.

Ru-roh! Let me know if he can't figure it out! What happens when you click on it? You should see an option to save it to disk...

V, I saved the excel spreadsheet. V your problem with the spreadsheet is that you are asking Cell E6 to subtract E5. E6 has a numerical value. E5 has a text value. Which is why Cell F6 is saying #Value.

It does not understand what you want subtracted from E5.

In short you can not subtract TEXT from a NUMBER. It's like saying subtract dog from the number 2. :-)

What cell do you want F to equal?

B7= 549(words/day for goal) - e6(total words)? I tried that formula not sure how the makes the total count right.

Whatever you want the cell F6 to equal it's an easy fix.
:-)

uhhhh...derrrrr....I am impressed--thank you, Lizzie! But I'm afraid you lost me at "V." LOL! I'll forward this to my husband for him to sort out--I am a total Excel dummy!!

Umm, I am right there with V? What the heck kind of language are you speaking? Heehee!! Lordy, I wish I knew computers like that!

~Sarah~

LMAO!! you guys are cracking me up. It's not hard very easy. Though I am impressed with your husbands calculations on the days x the week calculations. I never needed to do that for my job but I will have to mack off his calculations if I ever need it in the future.

Don't be impressed ladies. I had to learn excel. No choice. After all my field is accounting. I do miss more complicated calculations like I had at my last job. NOT that I love math. I detest it. Excel is just a neat program and there's all kinds of interesting things you can do in it.

If you look at your spreadsheet there are letters at the top and numbers on the side. Those letters and numbers correspond to a cell (that the square thingys). It is also where your excel formulas come from (a1 + b1 = d1).

Except for in excel the formula is just backwards. Your total has to appear in cell d1 and for that to happen you have to type the formula in the actual d1 cell. The formula looks like this. = a1+b1.

Simple calculations are just like what you use on a calculator. + for adding, - for subtracting, / or x for multiplication, * or */* for division and = for totaling. It's really not hard at all ladies. :-)

Try my example above. Type 10 in cell A1, then type 10 in cell B1. Then in Cell d1 type this formula = a1+b1. The total 20 will appear in d1.

And that's your lesson on Excel 101. LOL

LOL--thanks, Lizzie! I remain impressed. :)

Awesome, thank you!

~Sarah~

damn I knew I would be the three headed monkey in the room. Well at least you guys were impressed! LOL Let me know when it is fixed!

~Lizzie

Way to go Lizzie!! LOL Gayle

LOL!! I am glad you were impressed Gayle! :-) (blush)

~Lizzie

Ladies, I believe I have the value thing fixed.

Take a look at the spreadsheet I am going to email you see if it looks good.

~Lizzie

Yah, Lizzie is awesome!

~Sarah~

Yeah!!!! Go, Lizzie!!!! I'm so psyched to take a look at this! Will check it out asap. (Though right now, I'm about to take a hot shower and collapse...I just got home after driving the kids home from Tahoe by myself. It was an easy drive, but still, I feel tapped after four hours of focusing on the road...)

I can understand that. Glad you had a safe trip!

~Sarah~

WOW! Tahoe must have been gorgeous! Did you get a lot of snow? Glad you had some much needed time off with the family. Take your time on the spreadsheet. I am still not sure it is completely right.
