Ewen Cameron

A print of Ewen. Macaulay describes him as "tall and strongly built." Though this doesn't much resemble his painted portrait!

Loch Linnhe

Loch Linnhe is a prominent landmark in Cameron country, and it appears in different parts of my story. For those of you who've read the book, I can't look at this image and not think Lily racing to find Ewen.

Clan Cameron Crest

With their impressively extensive and well-organized archives, the Clan Cameron web site made my research a pleasure. My special thanks goes to Thomas A. Cameron, the North American Commissioner of the Clan Cameron Association, who so generously and enthusiastically provided me with many of the clan-related images you see here.  Aonaibh Ri Chéile, or, "Unite!"

Ewen in battle

I don't want to give any plot spoilers, but this is an image of a famous instance of hand-to-hand combat that I recreate in my book.  Not sure which one?  Here's a hint: I altered history slightly, and had Ewen take on a MacKintosh instead of a redcoat.

Ewen

A famous painting of our laird, Sir Ewen Cameron. Not quite how I pictured him in the story, huh?

Achnacarry

A rebuilt version of the house that Ewen built. According to the Cameron Reference File, the original structure, built in 1655-65, was "a large house, all built of fir-planks, the handsomest of that kind in Britain."

Tor Castle

This is all that's left of Tor Castle. What I wouldn't do to be able to walk the original keep! Ewen was the last laird to have lived under its roof, building the mansion house at Achnacarry to serve as his primary residence instead.

Lochaber - Cameron country!

A general shot of Lochaber, featuring the Caledonian Canal, looking down from somewhere near Moy.

River Nevis

A shot of the River Nevis, near Fort William. One of my subplots, the original Fort William was constructed in 1654 by the infamous General Monk, and then was later rebuilt. Despised by the Camerons, it came to be known as "An Gearasdan," or "The Garrison."

Caig Falls and the Witch's Pool

Any Highland witch worth her salt will, at some point, take the form of a cat. This is a photo of the Caig Falls, flowing from the River Caig in the hills north of Achnacarry. The deep pool is called the Witch's Cauldron, or Witch's Pool, in celebration of those clansmen who once chased a witch, in the form of a cat, over these falls to her death.
