Master of the Highlands: Chapter 6
Here I'll refer you to one of my very favorite sites, Botanical.com, where you'll find A Modern Herbal, the amazing, must-see encyclopedia originally published by Mrs. M. Grieve in 1931. Her entry for Deadly Nightshade inspired the plant found in my labyrinth. The plant is also known as "Devil's Cherries" and Belladonna, and it's utterly lethal. As Ewen explains to Lily, some claim that, come Samhain, witches have used a type of belladonna as an ingredient in flying ointment. Apparently it has a profound effect on the nervous system, making it a lethal hallucinogen (ergo, flying).
Ewen demolished Tor Castle, replacing it with a home at Achnacarry. The Clan Cameron web site states that Ewen desired a "more convenient" home, and in 1655 he built the old Achnacarry, "a large house, all built of fir-planks, the handsomest of that kind in Britain." I was unable to find any information about the interior of Tor Castle, and all of my descpritions originate solely from my imagination. Here is the only image I was able to find of the old castle:
And here is a photo taken by Tom Cameron showing the castle ruins:
