Ladies I present Mr. Beveridge's MaggotSo I have been trying to bolster my Classical music (you know because I just don't have ENOUGH music). so this led me to of course English Country Dances and to my absolutely favorite piece. Mr. Beveridge's Maggot. Or "Fancy" if you will. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUC4hmCyxZ0 Here is information on the Dance technique as well: I am sure that in proper society they had time to learn these dances. For myself it left my head spinning. LOL There are all sorts of links on second site. Tons of Jane Austen links regarding music of the period which also led me to grab all the Classical Romantic Composers from Wikipedia. Oh what at tangled web! Added December 4th, 2009 by bttrfly29

Very interesting, thank you for sharing. When I helped out at the Feast of the HUnter's Moon with the 42nd Highlander's, I met a woman who lives here now but was born and raised in Glasgow. She teaches Scottish country dancing about 20 min. from me. Andy said he would take the classes with me, so after the first of the year we are going to do that.

Oh Sarah that sounds wonderful!! I love to dance. Especially dances from different countries. I feel the dances help me to understand the people from those countries a little more. Thank you Lizzie for sharing the above information. I found it fascinating and I feel I would understand it better if I had a teacher to go through it with me rather than read it. And yes it does leave the head spinning!! LOL ... I love Jane Austen and 'Pride and Prejudice'is one of my favourites!! Thank you ladies!!!

LOL Oh good lord you better bring your depends for a good laugh. HA I was a youngin then and thought I could dance. I have not done something like that in years. I do wish there was a place around here where you could learn country dances but then where would go with them? LOL
I don't think the latest house party is going to be hosting a hoe down.

I don't think in Scotland they call it a Hoe down! LMAO! And when we decide to take our classes here, they have places they perform at, like the Fest of the Hunters Moon which is a re-enactment!
