I GOT MY LORD OF THE HIGHLANDS BOOK NA-NAH-NA-NAH

MUFUAHHAHAA!!! (mucho evil laugh). I got it!! I had to go to a few places to find it but I got it!! I was getting really irritated because it seems I was always a day late and dollar short on getting the book! Thank the Lord (ahem) Barnes & Noble in Deptford had it.

V...that quote before the prologue...brilliant. I love it.

I got mine today also. I have read as far as the porlogue! I haven't finished Echo yet, I may have to put it aside and read ROLLO then go back to Jamie! Sigh, two great men!

~Sarah~

Sarah I am already on Chapter 26! I could not put it down...sigh I am definitely in love with Rollo. I didn't think he would surpase Ewan for me but Rollo I heart you. He did me in Sarah.

~Lizzie

I can't wait then to get further in to it!

~Sarah~

I am done! I am done!! OMG...a record for me! Sarah I love this book. Oh I can't wait until you read it. :-)

~Lizzie

I am almost there, page 202. I will have it done by tomorrow!!!

~Sarah~

You guys make my day. =) Thank you thank you.

~Lizzie

~Sarah~

I can't wait to get my book and read Rollo's story!!!! Lord still wasn't in Borders last week when I was there!!!!! I am getting so frustrated.
Gayle

That sux!

~Sarah~

Gayle please come back and discuss! :-) I had to go to four different stores to get it!! I was so p'od you know when you are wanting to read something so badly.

Sarah...whew...that horse scene. OMG Ronnie you fricking outdid yourself. I had to re-read a few scenes over. ;-)

~Lizzie

I am so THRILLED!!! =D But what a massive bummer it still wasn't at Borders!!!!! Did you ask at the info desk? Sometimes they get it, but it's not unpacked yet...

That's what happened to me at Borders. The girl said they were getting their shipment the next day or so. Of course now they have a ton of them but I wasn't waiting. LOL

Kiltie

Just curious....i ordered Veronica's books from Amazon, no problem.....where is everyone from? I should have stock in Amazon, all I buy is books but plenty of em!

Hi Kiltie! I'm in Montana, and my nearest need-it-NOW book store (like Borders or B&N) is an hour away. My darling hudband gave me a kindle for my birthday so i download my book and have them in a minute. i love it!!

Well come to V's place. We have a great time here!

Oh Wow....big sky country! I'm jealous!!!! Love open lands but, unfortunately, living in MA there just isn't much left.....wee bits here and there. You can walk Boston and not wear out your shoes! It's a great city but give me country! Like the Highlands......sigh

Pam, the Kindle sounds *perfect* for you!! I've got one, and have definitely done the wee-hours download of the next book in various series (Twilight anyone?).

I'm in San Francisco, Kiltie, and I hear you on the longing for some good, old-fashioned tangled wilderness. Though Boston is a lovely city!

Is it morning? Dang! Hi ladies :) I'm looking for some good books on the history of the Highlands....not dry and technical, more of personal stories about the men, mostly, and women who lived and died during early times.....those that made the area what it is today. I'm not a city person, tho I live surrounded by them. My connection seems to be the land and her people :)
Any help would be grrreatly appreciated!

Namaste

Veronica

I should be receiving four of your books this week, if Amazon is on the ball.....since I'm a speedy reader I'd love to have four more ready for next week! heehee silly me I do look forward to reading them!!!

Hi Marti welcome aboard the crazy train! LOL Here you find the silliest girls you could ever meet! I am originally from Philadelphia (born and raised) and now living in Southern New Jersey. Hush your mouth on Boston, MA! I have been quite a few times and always enjoy myself. At least you preserved your history MUCH better than Filthfadelphia did. :-) I have A Borders, Borders Express (in the building I work in) and Barnes and Noble. I live there so much that they greet me like Norm in cheers. LOL

~Lizzie

Hi Kiltie, I am from NW Indiana and I have a B and N about 20 min. from me. Here in Indiana we have corn and pigs and I am in the county with the most of both! Enjoy the forums!

~Sarah~

Hush your mouth on Boston, MA! ROFLLLLLLLLLLL

I love Boston! I just prefer to live where there's more movearound space, and horses, and it's not too far to go shopping.....sheesh, i'm greedy :-P Oh, well.........

I hope you like them, Kiltie!!! As for favorite history books, wow, that's a toughie. I tend to dip in and out of various books. THE FOLKLORE OF THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS by Anne Ross is good. I enjoy all the Osprey Books, though that's more for stuff like castles and military history. For my research, I've relied a lot on CV Wedgwood's MONTROSE, and David Stevenson's HIGHLAND WARRIOR. I couldn't live without FLORA CELTICA, but I got that one in Scotland--good news is, there's a web site covering it (I can track it down, if you're interested). Otherwise, I dip in and out of all sorts of books, from illustrated kids' history books (!) to dusty old tomes from the library. =)

Kiltie, I strongly suggest going into the forum of Scottish Research. We have all shared alot of info in there! You really find info all over, but I would start there.

~Sarah~

Kiltie ElectricScotland.com has a lot of good info too! http://www.electricscotland.com/
Just plug in your info in the search box.

~Lizzie

Hee-hee Kiltie I used to like cramped city life but now I tell you I need fresh air and I need room to breathe. Not that SJersey is really providing it but for now it's close. sigh...

~Lizzie

Veronica.....thank you, thank you!!! I found all the books at Amazon and put them on my wish list, including Flora Celtica !!!
The Osprey Books are on my fav list for now. I should have enough reading to make a dent in winter :)

Sarah....thank you, also! i googled Scottish Research but most of the results were of a medical nature. What/where is the one you mentioned?

Again, thanks ladies.....if you think of anything else you enjoy, just drop me a note....in a pinch I'll read cereal boxes and such but i much prefer books :)

Marti

Here in the forums. There is one called Scottish Research.

~Sarah~

Thanks, Sarah.....I completely missed those, duh....immediately headed for the 'witches'topic then to research :)

You are welcome.

~Sarah~

I hope you like them, Kiltie! Some of those research books can be incredibly pricey, though. I highly recommend getting some of them from the library to make sure it's what you're interested in before you buy--my local library inter-library loans stuff for me all the time. :) Antonia Fraser also has a lot of stuff written, though I've only got her "Scottish Love Poems" anthology. (I mean, hey, what more does a gal need!?!)

First, before I get focused on something else....THANK YOU, Victoria for all those fantastic pictures from your trip! They gave me a much appreciated peek of home long ago!!

With all the suggestions you ladies have offered I've got enough reading material to cover the winter!! I expect to keep adding to my wish list as I gather things at home.....if I could put up a tent in B&N I'd stay 24/7/52 :) They're cranky, they won't allow it :(

I did come upon (i'm not a bargain hunter. things have to find me)a beautiful 'coffee table' book on Scotlnd by Nigel Blundell. Chalk full of glorius pictures and even more great writing! Printed in 1999, they were kind enough to save this one for me :)
Wish I could send you all a copy!!

Farewell to the Highlands,
farewell to the north;
The birth-place of valour,
the country of worth:
Wherever I wander;
wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands
for ever I love
Robert Burns
1759 - 1796

Thanks for the poem, I really liked it. The local 42nd Highland Regiment Re-enactors are holding in January, a Robert Burns Supper. Andy and I are going to attned that.

I also have a really good book I use. It is called "The Secret os Scotland", photographs by Dennis Hardley and I found it at B and N. Another book I have that I enjoy is "The Encyclopedia of World Costume", by Doreen Yarwood.

~Sarah~

Finally finished Lord! It was awesome V!!!! loved the ending!!!

Hi Kiltie, I'm from Empire Bay, on the Central Coast of NSW Australia and we have a mish mash, that is mountains, farmland, bushland and the ocean. If you need space it really is not far away, maybe 20mins to half an hour and all of it beautiful. But then I'm biased. I still haven't seen Lord come in, however I did enquire and I would have to order it specially for a much greater price than normal so I sent for it from the 'Book Depository' in the UK where the books are cheaper and have free delivery world wide. If any of you ladies are interested in having a look, just 'google' 'book depository' and it will bring up some sites for you. Or go here: www.bookdepository. co.uk ... I think that's the website I used. I'm having too many senior moments lately. (sigh0 LOL Gayle

Sorry I put a space between bookdepository. and co. I'm sure you understand what I mean. Gayle

Hey V, Sorry love but you don't have a section in your poll for all of the above. LOL They are all yummalicioius. Gayle

Sounds very pretty Gayle!

~Sarah~

Hi Gayle.....thanks for that tip! My fav places keeps agrowin. Sounds like Empire Bay is another glorious place! I'm a wee bit west of Boston, what used to be a small town....with highways there's no such thing in MA anymore.

I have no problem getting books, just my own impatience....if I can get one for any of you ladies, just yell!!

My Amazon order with V's books finally showed up but by then I'd found 2 of the 4 elsewhere so Amazon gets those back :-P I have absolutely NO patience with incompetence...coff coff....bite your wee tongue, there's no such thing as a "senior moment'....

Lovely poem, Kiltie--thanks!! And I'm so glad you enjoyed the book, Pam! :)

Would that I could go to a Burns supper!! I've always wanted to go...

And thanks, Gayle! Too funny. I need to come up with a new poll, but am feeling a little poll-bankrupt at the moment...LOL.

WHo won the contest about Rollo? IS it still going? Can we think of a new poll?

~Sarah~

Nobody yet...I wanted to give folks a chance to read it and answer. I'll post a winner next week. :) UGH, I DO need a new poll up there. My mind's a total blank... Maybe a holiday themed one? Any ideas? ;)

Christmas is coming, and I kilted Highlander under my tree would be nice!! LOL! I love the Scottish tradition of "First Footing" on New Year's Eve! Does the poll have to Scottish in theme?

~Sarah~

Woohoo!!!! My Lord has just arrived and I can't wait to read it. I'll have to start tonight, I am going to take my new little granddaughter for a ride in the car. LOL Love you all, talk to you soon!!!

Gayle

I voted as soon as I finished the books. Could have done it earlier. Even though I loved all the heroes, James had to be my favorite, absolutely, without doubt!!!

Are you listening well, James? (eg)

By the by V, I thought I would let you know that I absolutely love your Gallery section. I can lose myself in there for days, months, years!!! Oh I'm sure you get my drift!!! LOL

Gayle

The poll doesn't need to be Scottish in theme at all! So glad you like the gallery, Gayle! I've got a few more to add...will be doing that in the next few days. In the meantime, I hope you like LORD!!

Wonderful!!! I look forward to it!! I am thoroughly enjoying 'LORD', thank you. At the rate I'm reading at the moment though, it may take me some time. Other things, unfortunately, have to be done. (sigh)

Gayle

Oh no, you missed the cardinal rule when you signed the agreement to join this site. (All other things in your life must be put aside for the amount of time it takes you to read Veronica Wolff books!) LOL! You'll love it Gayle and don't worry about reading it slow, it just allows you to savor it longer!

~Sarah~

LMAO!! all life ceases when any of your books come out. Sarah get published already will you! Geesh.

V, will you get that new series done already???

Lizzie get to finishing Chapter 3 already...oh wait.. I am slapping my own hands again.

I gotta stop doing the crack. It's seriously screwing up my other bad habits.

~Lizzie
